Cuba Educational Tour

ACADEMIC PROGRAM AND ITINERARY

From November 28th - December 5th, 2004

All transport in modern air-conditioned bus, with bilingual Cuban guide.

Day 1, Sunday, November 28

Arrival at Jose Marti Airport, Havana, at 10:25 P.M.

Meet and greet by Cuban guide and representative

Check-in at hotel Colina.

Day 2, Monday November 29

Full day city tour of Modern and Old Havana with lunch in El Patio restaurant

Day 3, Tuesday, November 30

9 A.M. - Instituto Superior de Artes (ISA - Cuban university dealing with the all the arts and culture). Chat on Cuban culture. Small musical concert by students. Exchange with Cuban students.

12 Lunch - El Aljibe restaurant. Chat with cooks and management on this typical Cuban culinary meal: chicken and black bean rice.

1 P.M. D'Arte, (Casa de la Cultura, Habana Centro), chat on afro-Cuban music and dance presentation

3 P.M. Visit to Regla and its museum - Afro-Cuban religion.

6 P.M. Back to Hotel

8 P.M. - Casa de la Musica in Habana Centro. Music with live band. Salsa lessons and dinner

Day 4, Wednesday, December 1

9 A.M. Institute of Pedagogy. Chat on the training of teachers and professors.

11:30 A.M. - Chat with students at the Institute

2 P.M. Visit to the Cuidad de la Libertad (an Institute dedicated to education): a high school and the Literacy Museum.

5 P.M. return to the hotel.

Day 5, Thurday, December 2

9 A.M. Visit to CUJAE, one of the main universities in Cuba mandated for the teaching of business administration courses.

11:30 A.M. Chat with CUJAE university students.

2 P.M. Chat with MINCEX (Ministry of Foreign Trade) on Cuban international trade, American Cuban trade and commerce.

5 P.M. Return to hotel

Day 6, Friday, December 3

9 A.M. Visit the Escuela Latin Americana de Medicina (ELAM), a university specializing in exchange programs with American students and other foreign medical students, or the Escuela Internacional de Deportiva, a university specializing in exchange programs with foreign students

10 A.M. Discussion with the international relations department of the university on exchange programs with American students.

11 A.M. Discussion with foreign students enrolled at the University on exchange program.

2 P.M. - Visit to MINREX (Ministry of Foreign Relations). Chat on American Cuban politics, differences between American and Cuban governments.

4 P.M. Visit to the Malecon handicraft market near MINREX

5 P.M. return to hotel

7:30 P.M. Baseball game or other sports event according to the sports calendar.

Day 7, Saturday, December 4

8 A.M. Departure for Matanzas for the whole day.

9:30 A.M. Arrival Matanzas.

City tour of Matanzas: the importance of music and culture in Matanzas for all of Cuba. Cultural presentation in one of the most important theatres in Cuba: Teatro Sauto

5 P.M. Return to the Colina hotel.

Arrival at the hotel at 7 P.M.

Day 8, Sunday, December 5

10 A.M. Departure for Havana, Jose Marti Airport for 3:35 P.M. flight.
