Cuban High School
Spanish/Cultural Immersion, Exchange and International Cooperation Trips for
Canadian and American high schools

The sample program and itinerary is prepared and customized by EduToursToCuba.com in collaboration with a Cuban high school, Escuela Secundaria Basica 26 de Julio in the town of Alamar.

Also involved in this exchange is the Department of Education of the Municipality of Habana del Este in which the town of Alamar is situated. Alamar is about 8 kilometres from Havana.

Lodging is in quadruple occupancy in the two-star Villa Bacuranao, on the sea near a beach, about 9 kilometres from Alamar and Cojíimar where the schools are located and about 17 kilometres from Havana.

The exchange program is based on the pairing of one foreign high school student with one Cuban high school student. Once the pairing takes place well before the departure, we assist in the correspondence through email between the Cuban high school students and foreign students. This is an opportunity to practice Spanish and get to know a little about the culture and interests of each other. Accompanying teachers also have the opportunity to correspond and be twinned with Cuban teachers, if they are interested.

To get a feeling of this unique exchange, we have reproduced excerpts of some of the email correspondence that took place recently between the students; you will also see an exchange amongst the teachers.

We offer a gratuity for one accompanying teacher per 15 students (16th free), in single or double occupancy. All transportation is carried out in modern air-conditioned coaches. A Cuban experienced bilingual guide is with the group throughout the stay. While we offer programs with Spanish classes having a maximum of 10-11 students per class, we can also tailor-make the itinerary without Spanish classes, placing more importance on exchange with the Cubans in the form of sports, community work and cultural activities.

In general, "pictures speak louder than words", but when it comes to images of youth from two different countries getting to know each other, the saying applies with even more force. And so we invite you to get a preview of our educational high school trips by visiting the gallery of photos from the schools that have experienced our educational trip to Cuba since 2002. In the first photo gallery you will find pictures of The Villa Bacuranao were the students will call home for the entire stay. In the second photo gallery you will find a photo album representing different activities, excursions of groups since 2002.

Thus we suggest that you view the Gallery of Photos 2003 before those of 2004.

Below you will find a sample itinerary. It is based on a one week exchange trip. However, two-weeks and ten day trips are also available on request. We can vary and modify the program and itinerary in any way. For example, some schools prefer a stay with no Spanish classes, but instead the opportunity to practice the language and engage in more exchange by doing community work, sport competition, etc.
