Geologists

Here is an example of what EduToursToCuba.com can do for those involved in geology, in collaboration with the ISPJAE, the Cuban University responsible for this field of study.

CUBA: NATURE AND GEOLOGY

Cuba, for its insular condition and its situation in the Caribbean Sea, in the northern part of the humid tropics, possesses very attractive landscapes for enjoyment. Although the relief is essentially flat, in the west, center and east of the country, isolated mountainous groups with exuberant vegetation and rich fauna are visible. These characteristics and a very diverse geology with combination of elements with oceanic and continental origin, related with the geological history of the Caribbean, make it appropriate to develop activities of ecological tourism.

For these reasons, the Department of Geosciences of High Polytechnic Institute of Havana wants to promote activities of scientific tourism among geo scientists who wants to spend free time in activities related with the nature, landscape and geology. We have elaborated a program of itineraries, that starting in Havana City, includes visits to Cuban towns with tourist and geological interest.

Itinerary 1: The oldest rocks in Cuba.

Travel through mountains in the western part of the country, with one of the best Jurassic exhibitions in Cuba and very well developed typical karstic relief.

Itinerary 2: Volcanic arch and ophiolites

Travel through a portion of western coast, characterized by cliffs, terraces and beaches, and interior valleys with melange outcrops constituted by orogenic rocks, volcanic arch rocks and opholites.

Itinerary 3: Cuban metamorphites

All the journeys will be guided by a professor of Geology.
